In the early 1900s, young architect, Samuel Daley Craig returned to the Shenandoah Valley from school to practice his trade of designing and building. In 1957 S. Daley Craig Jr. moved to Charlottesville to serve the expanding housing needs of the increasingly successful University of Virginia. For the past 40 + years, Sam Craig has guided Craig Builders as it continues to adapt to the everchanging home building market place in Charlottesville and Albemarle County.

The Craig Builders “family” of employees has steadily grown over the years through very selective matching of special people with specific roles. It is comprised of a tight-knit group of exceptional staff. Each person shares the guiding principle of being highly productive, anticipating and serving the needs of our customers exceptionally well, and being highly respected in the community of family, friends, associates and public. As a small business, Craig Builders’ primary reward is witnessing the satisfaction of their customers entire building experience.

Craig Builders constantly adjusts its practices with long term business standing in mind. Despite having built many homes over many years, each house is still built one at a time. The use of time-tested materials and methods allows Craig Builders to be confident and prideful in every home it builds and insures its strong community standing for many years into the future.

Craig Builders provides a semi-custom building experience using over 60 years of tried and tested construction methods. The result is a quality built and energy efficient home with included features that offer a complete package so you may not feel the need to upgrade.

Each home includes painted full overlay cabinetry, granite countertops, wide plank hardwood flooring and abundant choice of ceramic tile…just to name a few. Many homes include our signature custom made mahogany front door and every home is stick built with 2x6 exterior walls as we’ve done for generations.
